Additional Information:  Born in Hawaii and schooled on both coasts of the mainland, Richard is a highly respected member of the appellate community in Southern California. He is the immediate past chair of the Appellate Courts Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Richard builds cases from an appellate perspective. He has more than 50 opinions to his name, written over 100 appellate briefs, and argued numerous cases in the state and federal appellate courts. Outside the office, Richard is a longstanding member and past chair of the Editorial Board of the award-winning Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine. He interviewed Chief Justice Ronald George for a cover-page story on Justice George's tenure as Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. Richard also worked as an editor at the Bureau of National Affairs in Washington, DC, where two of his articles won first prize for specialty writing in the Newspaper Guild's Front Page Awards. Richard also serves as secretary and member of the Board of Directors of Haven House, the nation's first shelter for battered women and their children. Richard is licensed to practice law in California, Virginia and the District of Columbia. He received his law degree from Antioch Law School and his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from the University of California at Berkeley.
